Digital hair tutorial

Hey everyone! Hope this is useful for some of you!

so let's begin..

1.) Start with finding your shapes. In this case, I was going for a big curl.

2.) After you found the rough form, you can add some volume to that.

(you could also add value in this stage like in a grey scale overpaint)

3.) Now you can lock the pixels on that layer and slap your colour choices on a new clipping layer.

4.) Follow the flow of the hair and work the colours in.

5.) Switch up your brushes to add some texture. Use chalk and/ or texture brushes to get a nice mix.

6.) Add more details like lose strains and lines and make it a bit messy, 'cause hair is usually never super perfect

7.+8.) Play with the contrast and colour balance and keep adding little, thin lines until you are happy with the result!

And of course, have fun


little tip: Start out HUGE! Choose a big canvas size (as long as your PC can handle that). You can still downsize later if you have to.
